In the age of digital and color photography, most people moan and groan over the old black and white classic horror movies as kitsch and camp. Not me. I fell in love with my first Vampire watching the Universal Classic Dracula. So here are a few of my faves:

Dracula- Bela Lugosi
Frankenstein- Boris Karloff
The Bride of Frankenstein- Boris Karloff and Elsa Lancester
The Black Cat- Boris and Bela (Stunning art deco set and beautiful photography made this a treat)
Night of the Hunter- Robert Mitchum
The Hunchback of Notre Dame- Charles Laughton
Jekyll and Hyde- Spencer Tracy
M- Peter Lorre (German with subtitles)

Metropolis- Silent film-German
Nosferatu- Silent film-Max Schreck
Haxan- Silent Film- Swedish

Modern B/W

Psycho- Janet Leigh
Night of the Living Dead- George Romero director

from Renee

My second favorite would have to be Cat People starring Simone Simon as the young Serbian immigrant who falls in love with an American and marries him although she can never be truly his.

Any of the Karloff films follow.
