As I was perusing the file sharing universe for books about the strange and unusual world of Vampires, Faeries and Werewolves and what not, I accidentally downloaded a book for Vampire the Masquerade. For the RPG virgin, that is a role playing game similar to Dungeons and Dragons which replaces wizards and warlocks with Vampires and Ghouls. While I am not interested usually in RPG and get irritated when I think I am downloading a great book on Vampires and get a gamer's book instead, I peeked into one and I was instantly fascinated. There was a lot of things in there that were very familiar.

Vampires create their myth to hide in plain sight- Bill explains to Sookie in S1 E7 that Vampires create their own myths so humans will accept them. This is the first thing the play book explains to us. They can't go in the daylight and they have to drink blood and they can be staked in the heart and killed, but crosses and other holy icons don't effect them and holy water is just water and garlic is just a seasoning that irritates them.

Vampires have two conflicting natures: the lingering humanity and the beastial Vampire arrogance- Bill explains S1 E3 to Sookie that Vampires in a nest become more cruel and separated from their humanity when they live in a nest but Vampires like himself who lives alone holds on to more of their humanity.

Vampires are made through the two step process
: Maker drinks you to the point of death, then gives you their blood and next thing you know, you wake up with the hunger. Bill explains that in Dead until Dark and gives Sookie the willies....

Drink the same Vampire's blood three times and you are blood bonded- This works between two Vampires as well in VtM but it is the way Eric forges his blood bond with Sookie. In the show, it seems that any goodly amount of Vampire blood, as opposed to just a drop or two using V will forge a bond.

Vampires are the Children of Cain: In Season Two, the FotS boys at the conference explain to Jason that Vampire is the mark of Cain.

Sheriffs and Fiefdoms: Eric tries to explain some things to Sookie about how Vampires are organized and explains that Vampires who oversaw an area, which was called a fiefdom, are called Sheriffs.

The Magister: He is the high judge of any Vampire/Vampire conflict.

The earth is sectioned off into Clandoms and each Clan has a prince or princess ruling over it. Sounds similar to the King/Queen arrangement of the Sookie Books and TB.

Fae blood causes intoxication and sometimes madness in Vampires- Eric after drinking the whole faerie. And in the eleventh book, Victor Madden tries to get Eric and Pam to drink from glasses tainted with Fae blood.

The Maker controls his/her child until they are released- Yep...Lorena released Bill and Eric has released Pam and Godric released Eric as did his maker in the book, Ocella.

Blood Bags: These are humans slavishly devoted to Vampires who like to be bitten and fed from.
